I read a lot. There are very few things that make me as happy as curling up with a book I can get lost in. It is definitely as escape from reality. I read a wide variety of book and this year I've read YA novels, historical fiction, romance novels, fantasy and have read a few books with Sarge. These have been the biggest stretch and the one I'm reading now is the first non-fiction book of the year.
Our mini book club started with the Game of Thrones series and we've worked to continue it. We don't often have the same taste in books but it's been fun. I talked Sarge into reading the Hunger Games books and I've read a zombie book that he recommended. (Nightmares have prompted me to say that I won't read another until he's home for me to wake up in the middle of the night as needed!) I am currently reading American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History by Chris Kyle. I never would have picked it out myself but I am enjoying. I think I like that Chris has included small writings from his wife's perspective. I like to think that the parts about reconnecting post-deployment are helping but I won't know that until it's actually happening.
What books would you recommend we read next?
Adventures in Being Married to a Soldier and Policeman. The husband is currently deployed so right now it's about being an army wife and managing life during deployment. I'm a singer, music teacher and administrative intern...life is busy!

Escaping
I was teasing Sarge the other night when were both reading in the hotel room about being part of "my" family for real now. He loves to read but doesn't always have the time. With the upcoming deployment he is anticipating more time and so we're both reading the same series. I am going to share how nerdy I am right now...this is REALLY exciting for me. I love that we are talking about books together. Most of our book discussions go like this:
Sarge "Did you see this movie?"
Me: "No, but I read the book."
Yes, I know I'm a nerd. You should see my cousin Peter's imitation of me reading, it at least makes it funny.
The "Song of Ice & Fire" series by George R.R. Martin is our new thing...and it's great that we both enjoy it. (Thanks Dwayne for the recommendation!) Sarge is starting Game of Thrones and I'm reading the 2nd book in the series, Clash of Kings. I am looking forward to having things to talk about in our emails that are outside the everyday issues, etc. We'll just get to share something together that's fun.
My family knows that my biggest "guilty pleasure" is reading. It's the perfect escape from everyday life, drama, stress, etc. The past 3 days I have done a LOT of reading!
Happy reading everyone...I'll talk more about why I'm doing all the reading and our stay in Red Bank tomorrow.
