Lazy Wednesday

So, I know I should be vacuuming, but reading and lounging is way more my speed today.  I was up and at the gym at 9:15 this morning for an hour workout and then I went to get my nails done.  Other than a quick run to the store for cake baking supplies this afternoon, I have been a bum!

I will be doing a flag cake for Saturday's 4th BBQ and possibly a cake for Sarge.  He's asked for a layer cake with carrot cake, banana nut and cheesecake!  I think he's nuts but I will see what I can create.  More on those plans tomorrow, today I am doing nothing!

So, at the gym this morning I was thinking that I don't have any "new" music on my gym mix.  I need stuff that is upbeat and energetic.  I also love it when I want to sing along.  I usually fight this urge at the gym, I think I'd get weird looks!  I would love some suggestions for running/workout music that will motivate me to push towards the next level.

Just not enough hours....

School is out for the summer, and I just finished a final!  I hate finals and though this wasn't the worst I've had to complete, I just would rather not do them at all.  And yes, I know this is part of being a graduate student.

Anyway, I am currently frustrated by the amount of army stuff strewn about my living room.  Sarge came home over a week ago with 4 giant bags of stuff.  I was told he merely had to unpack and repack them to make sure that all was there and ready for deployment.  Of course, there are now 4 large bags in various states of un-packed-ness all over the floor in one half of the living room!!  I suggested starting the re-packing last night to keep from ruining our upcoming weekend but that didn't happen.  Now what?  I am trying very hard not to nag him but it's making me grouchy.  I am trying to make his last 2 weeks fun, not full of housework but I don't want to be "the maid" for the first 3 days he's away, it will make me resentful which I NEVER want to be.

So, on a more positive note we have discovered (a little later than many) the new show Game of Thrones on HBO.  We had to order OnDemand yesterday so that Sarge could watch all of the episodes before he leaves.  Last night we watched 3 in a row!  I am in the middle of the first book and trying desperately to keep ahead of the show but just can't.  (See the opening of this post for why)  Usually I'm a quick reader but I have been so busy lately I can't find the time I want.  So, after I finish this series I need another to start to keep me in books for the rest of the summer....any suggestions?  I'm an avid reader so the more unlikely the suggestion the better!

Bittersweet Weekend

Monday morning and I'm getting ready to start laundry and some cleaning up around the condo.  It's was the busiest weekend we've had in a while and I was reminded again of what great family and friends we have.   We didn't stop from Friday through last night at midnight but it was worth every crazy minute.

We had dinner with new friends on Friday night.  Sarge met the husband in a class he's taking for work on firearms instruction.  The two guys were scary in how similar they are and I enjoyed the dinner a lot.  I think this will be a good match, it can be tough to find good couples friends, especially ones who understand shift work, husbands who carry guns and how to keep a sense of humor about all of it.  I really enjoyed dinner and there was a lot of laughing!

Saturday we went to pick up Sarge's nephew and then met up with friends at a nearby .  We had a blast playing mini golf, laser tag and driving go-karts.  We have known some of these people since high school (Sarge more than me) and it was great to see how these friendships have continued into adulthood.  I know I'll be included in stuff even when Sarge is away and that's invaluable.  I have learned in the last 2 years that I don't really LIKE to go to events by myself but that it's way better than sitting home alone!

Okay, so my family is awesome.  I know that I am biased but they really are great.  My parents and sisters threw a going away party for Sarge last night.  The food was outstanding as always (my family loves food) and my entire local family was there.  They kept the day upbeat instead of mopey and really got into the spirit.  My sisters bought all camouflage decorations and even the dessert was red, white and blue had candles shaped like tanks and Army stars. They are too cute!  My family then gave Sarge a portable DVD player and season 1 of The Walking Dead to take with him.  He loves that show and just about anything involving zombies.  My family really loves him and supports his service.  I only wish I had remembered to bring my camera...I have NO pics from yesterday!

I had a mini-breakdown last night; I realized that all the parties and get togethers are saying goodbye.  I have to work to keep from crying constantly, it's no good for me or for Sarge.  I am making a huge effort to stay positive and not be a wreck.  I know this is part of being an army wife, some days are just better than others...

Next stop...

We are now less than 2 weeks from life's next big adventure. In July I will be driving the hubby down to base for his deployment.  I have known for a while that this is coming but I can't say that I am thrilled about it.  I know that in the long run this deployment is going to be good for us and Hubby wants to go but I am NOT ready yet.  I don't know that I would ever "be ready" to spend a year with minimal communication and knowing he is putting himself in a dangerous spot but I'm doing my best to close.  I am focused on planning what to send him, when to do it and how to keep busy while he's gone so I don't get mopey.

We will be spending the next 2 weeks with as many friends and family as we can manage.  We have a couple barbeques, a paintball day and who knows what else.  Our goal is to have fun but make sure that we make some alone time for ourselves as well.  We have been out with friends or had friends over the last 4 nights.  Tonight is date night, yay!!  Now it's just time to decide where/what we're going to do.  Any suggestions?

Happy Last Day of School!!

Let the adventures begin!

Hi all!

The last few months of my life have been really busy and wonderful so it's time to start a new blog to go along with my new life as an army wife and police wife.  We have an eventful year ahead of us, though I am hoping this blog will last beyond that.  I think I'll use this space to talk about what's going on in my life, what it's like to be married to a policeman/soldier, and my adventures in the kitchen.  I'll start with a quick recap of how I got to be where I am today...

It was a whirlwind engagment, we planned and hosted our wedding only 2 months after getting engaged.  Thanks to army (more on that in a later post) we were on the fast track.  We are also a little older so there was no reason to wait.  I have to say that a short planning time was probably the best for me, I didn't have time to go back and second guess every choice I made along the way.  The day was perfect and I really did marry my best friend.

It was an absolutely perfect night, minus the torrential rains and occasional flooding of roads.  You can't ask for more than to be surrounded by family and friends.  And...I wore GREAT shoes!

We followed up the wedding with a quick mini-moon in Philadelphia.  It was exactly what we needed after the hectic wedding weekend.  We got a chance to just "be us."  We walked everywhere for the 3 days and saw and ate so many things.  I may have to do a post on just that trip soon.

These days I am finishing up my school year and a graduate class along with many social engagements.  We have events planned almost every day between now and 4th of July.  We are so fortunate to have so many wonderful friends, but wow, I am tired at the end of each day!

As this first week of posting goes along I'll add more about the upcoming changes and day to day stuff!
